In the spring of 2021, Worcester Academy chose to resume their theater program after putting it on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. TRAP! was the first show to kick off the program’s return. When an entire audience falls unconscious during a high school play, only one witness is able to recount the chilling events that led up to the incident. With a script written by Stephen Gregg, this documentary-style play is told through interviews, eyewitness accounts, and shocking flashbacks. Under the instruction of production designer David Plante, I worked on a team with three other students to fabricate the set as both a scenic painter and a carpenter. The hexagonal platform in particular was tricky because it contained a trap-door component that we had to work to piece together safely to support the weight of the actors.
