Building the future museum exhibit
This is the question that the Building the Future museum exhibit aims to answer. I was tasked with creating and designing a new interactive experience that would educate people on a topic of my choice. As homelessness rates and real estate prices skyrocket, urban planning is becoming increasingly important. Cities need to be designed to be more accessible. With this particular exhibit, guests can experiment with the concept of urban planning by interacting with an ever-changing cityscape. There are two tables covered in blocks that can be picked up and moved around. Motion sensors capture the movement of the blocks in real time and send that information to a projection mapping program. The projection mapping program then generates infrastructural elements relative to the location of the blocks, which are projected onto the tables to create bustling cities.
What does the foundation of the future really look like?
The Building the Future exhibit is part of an ongoing project I am working on. It is one of the featured exhibits in a children’s museum centered around the theme of storytelling called Storyscape. What better way is there to tell children that they can write their own stories by having them create their own future? The initial groundplan of the museum is listed below and the location of the Building the Future exhibit is starred. Dimensions and furniture details will be added at a later date.
